Travel Blog- Riviera Maya, Mexico 2016

Last Updated on

It’s taken me a minute to write this post about my recent trip to Riviera Maya, Mexico, but it’s definitely something that’s been on my mind every since we landed. And WOW, what an amazing vacation it was!

My husband and I went on this vacation with two of our good friends, and stayed in Riviera Maya, about an hour and 20 minutes from Cancun. To be honest, we were a little worried traveling with another couple as we had never done that before, and hoped it would work out. I would mention this trip to other people and most would give a look of worry, or say something like “you’ll either be even better friends or hate each other when you get back.” Luckily it was the former.

The resort we stayed at was the Secrets Acumel, which just opened 2 month prior. It was an adults-only resort with spectacular views of the ocean and crystal blue waters migrated by turtles and other sea creatures. I played beach volleyball nearly everyday, tried stand-up paddle boarding for the first time (so peaceful!), laid out at the pool drinking cocktails, and ate many amazing meals at each one of their 5 restaurants. We also went to a club called Coco Bongo, which I can’t even describe to do it justice. Check it out here. It was definitely a night to remember.

I decided for this trip I would not be bringing my camera so all I had was a cell phone. Below is the view from our room.

This is one of my favorite shots from the trip because I’m just so damn happy in this pic. I swear I could have played volleyball all day, everyday.Riviera Maya, Mexico Travel Blog- via

Below is the 4 of us, exploring beaches and just having an overall blast.

And below is my favorite photo of the trip. I have no idea how I jumped so high! This reminds me of some fights my husband and I have had at home. Ha, kidding! But it’s a super cool shot and I feel all ninja-like. =)

I’ve been a lot of places in this world and I just love how each place has its own special charm. Riviera Maya may not be Hawaii (nothing is so far) =) but I loved the friendliness of the people there, the beautiful beach and the amazing resort. I’d highly recommend to anyone looking for a long weekend.  It couldn’t have been more fun and we’ve already started to plan our next couple’s vacation.
