This Easy Pear Crisp is so simple to make (with only 10 minutes of actual prep time!). Top with ice cream and homemade vegan caramel sauce for a truly divine “less-guilt” dessert.
If you’re like me, and absolutely loooove apple crisp, this pear crisp recipe will be right up your alley! This fall dessert is crazy easy to make, yet so impressive it will look like you spent hours in the kitchen. It also has just the right amount of sweetness for a perfect fall treat.
Which type of pear should I use for this Pear Crisp?
There are a few different types of pears, such as Anjou, Bartlett, Bosc, Asian, Comice, French Butter, and Seckel. When it comes to pies, pear crisps and general baking, Bosc and Anjou pears work great, as they’re mild, sweet and hold their shape.
I also use Bartlett pears (seen in the photos) which are very juicy and easy to find in local supermarkets. But, they DO tend to fall apart a little in this Pear Crisp. However, I don’t mind as it ends up being all mixed up anyway.
Which type of pear is YOUR favorite? Or are you like me and had no idea there were that many kinds of pears!? =)
How to make this Vegan, Gluten-Free Pear Crisp:
So let’s get started making this super easy pear crisp recipe….
First, preheat your oven to 375 F. Then grease a 9×13 baking dish (or similar size) using vegan butter, coconut oil, or baking spray.
Next, in a medium bowl, add the pear slices (STEP 1 below), vegan butter, coconut sugar and 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Mix together (STEP 2) then transfer to the greased baking pan (STEP 3).
In the same medium bowl (no need to wash!), add the oats, unsweetened coconut, gluten-free all-purpose baking flour, pecans, coconut oil, maple syrup and remaining 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (STEP 4). Stir with a spoon (STEP 5) and then transfer the mixture onto the pears in an even layer. Press down with the back of the spoon to flatten (STEP 6).
Bake for 35 minutes at 375 F or until it’s browned and bubbling. If making the Vegan Caramel, you can make it while the pear crisp is baking. Remove the crisp from the oven when ready and set aside to cool.
In a bowl, add a scoop of the warm pear crisp, a scoop (or 3) of ice cream, and a drizzle of the Vegan Caramel if desired.
Substitutions and Top Tips to making this Pear Crisp recipe:
- The Vegan Caramel is a great addition, but if you’re trying to save on calories, this pear crisp is perfectly flavorful without. However, the vanilla ice cream is non-negotiable in my opinion. =)
- For the vanilla ice cream, you can most likely find a variety of different dairy-free options at your local supermarket. My favorite brands are Ben & Jerry’s, So Delicious and Coconut Bliss.
- You can also add a bit of ground or minced ginger, or ground nutmeg, to spice up the flavor. Or if you have ‘apple pie spice’ on hand, that could also be a great addition.
- Feel free to swap out apples for the pears in this recipe OR use a mix of pears and apples if you have them on hand.
- I would definitely recommend fresh pears for this recipe. Canned should work and taste ok, but will be very mushy. Fresh is best.
I hope you enjoy making (and more importantly EATING) this delicious Easy Pear Crisp. Once it’s in the oven, you’ll love the amazing smell throughout your house. =)
Helpful Tools:
- Vegetable Peeler: This is my favorite tool to peel the pears.
- Mixing Bowls: I love OXO brand and use these bowls constantly.
- 9×13 Baking Dish: I got the one shown in the photos in this recipe at Home Goods, but this one is another great option.
- Ice Cream Scoop– Vanilla ice cream is a MUST-HAVE for this recipe so you gotta have one of these scoops. You probably have one, but if not, I like this one from OXO. Or a large spoon works too! Tip: dip the spoon in hot water before scooping the ice cream to make it easier. =)

Hi Christin
Just took the pear crisp out of the oven. It looks great. We are going to have it tonight, after supper. Today was our first big snowfall, so this is a great cold weather dessert that is vegan. I will make this again, next time using apples.

Star Schein says
Hi! This sounds great but i’d need to make it nut free. Can you recommend a substitute for the pecans? Or can they be left out?
Thanks!
Christin McKamey says
Hi Star, yes I think you could just leave the pecans out. You could replace them with additional oats, or even granola or pumpkin/sunflower seeds. Or maybe even try raisins. =)
